MOD is an emotional love story of two completely mismatched people -- a genre Kukunoor has never tackled earlier. In fact, in his earlier movies, love was a part of the main plot, but it's the central theme this time. MOD boasts of an interesting idea and even Kukunoor's mature handling of the material needs to be lauded, but the film suffers for two reasons -- it unfolds at a sluggish/lethargic pace and is prolonged.Let's get specific. The concept of the film is interesting, but once the cat is out of the bag vis-a-vis the identity of Rannvijay, you expect Kukunoor to take the story to its destination pronto. The journey to the culmination is erratic in this case. The track of Rannvijay's parents and also the sequences that lead to the final moments seem elongated for no compelling reason. These portions don't involve you and that is MOD's biggest undoing! On the whole, MOD appeals in bits and spurts. That's about it! Read moreReview by: Daily Bhaskar Site: Daily Bhaskar Ratings: 2/5
Mod rests on a very engaging plot which is much beyond romance though it touts to be a romantic film. The well-knitted story, however, loses essence with extremely slow-paced screenplay. The initial 40 minutes worn out one’s patience when Nagesh Kukunoor introduces each character. Post interval, as the story unfolds with hard to predict twists, things fall in place for Mod.Interesting storyline, power-packed performances, dialogues and intelligent direction are the strengths. Music, screenplay and editing take a toll on the film.On the whole, Mod is a one-time watch which surely won’t disappoint you due to the fresh concept. In Mod, Kukunoor shows glimpses of the astute storyteller he can be, keeping you fairly engaged even with his no-frills storytelling technique. But somewhere the story (originating from the Taiwanese film, Keeping Watch) itself is found wanting.Mod doesn’t work in totality, but has its moments. What it does, really, is remind you of the fact that Kukunoor is a filmmaker you can't ignore. Shunning technical flamboyance, he continues to tell stories in the more conventional mould, some which work, some which don't. You can expect him to stun you in the future.Read moreReview by: SuperGoodMovies Site: SuperGoodMovies Ratings: 2.5/5
Nagesh Kuknoor presents an unusual story of eternal love inspired from a foreign film but added to it moments that made it seem a little senseless. But that’s how love is senseless Interesting is parts, MOD is definitely a must watch for all those on love. There is a mystery and old world charm about the movies that make you neglect all the flaws in the screenplay and even the basic plot. For all those who believe in true love that is practically impossible in the “Real” world, MOD is definitely giving your time to. Yes, there is nothing normal about the film, nothing that makes sense in today’s time but still the film makes you fall in love with it. It reminded me of timeless stories like Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore’s ’50 First Dates’. Plus points:Performances.Minus points:SlowSenseless.Final Word:For all those who believe in true love and are madly in love.Read more
