MY FRIEND PINTO suffers on various counts. First of all, it is hard to believe that someone can be so naïve in today's times. Even if one were to believe that Pinto is indeed the 'innocent' one, the film is packed with ridiculous situations and characters that make you squirm in your seat. If the intention was to make you laugh, sorry, this film doesn't! Even the music, which has been a hallmark of Bhansali's movies, is plain mediocre this time.Prateik fails to deliver. He tries so hard to look the congenial but not worldly wise Pinto, but doesn't succeed. Kalki is an effortless actor, but she looks disinterested here. Arjun Mathur does well. Divya Dutta is passable. Makrand Deshpande is wasted. Amin and Karim are strictly okay. Raj Zutshi is effective. Shruti Seth is alright. On the whole, MY FRIEND PINTO is a terrible waste of a terrific opportunity! .Read moreReview by: Daily Bhaskar Site: Daily Bhaskar Ratings: 2/5
‘My Friend Pinto’ tries to tickle one’s funny bones and give a feel good factor by presenting a cute and gullible character Pinto in the big bad city of Mumbai where people have forgotten to smile with the hustle bustle in their lives. Apart from Pinto, the plot is extremely chaotic and lacks any basic storyline. There are too many sub plots which makes the climax unintentionally funny, but extremely inspiring.Alas, ‘My Friend Pinto’ is not what we had hoped for, though the light hearted comedy can be a one-time watch as Prateik is cute in his role of a gullible guy.Read moreReview by:Mayank Shekhar Site:HindustanTimes Ratings:3/5
Sometimes too much happens, there's never a dull moment, which also means you’re left with very few real moments. Several portions seem flat; the narrative goes all over the place. Guns don't go off. Thankfully. It's still exciting when the film captures the relatively sanitised chaos of the south of Bombay, a real city. It becomes bland only when this is alternated with excessive indoor artistry of Mumbai noir, or a cardboard musical. The artfulness shows though. These are interesting times. Different voices. Newer faces. Still Bollywood. The material here may be a lot better than the movie. But it doesn't quite disappoint you still. Which is great to know. And you should be good to go.Read moreReview by: Preeti Arora Site:Rediff Ratings:1/5
The simpleton, the country bumpkin; ingratiates, irritates, exasperates and is difficult to deal with. But he is blessed with a heart of gold. The miracle man will interact with you for a few minutes and your life will change forever. All the petty strife and rivalries which have so far populated your existence will suddenly cease to exist. The protagonist as a naïve charmer has become an often repeated theme largely due to the success of the Munnabhai series.Paying homage to the all-time cult film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron there is also a dead body being lugged around and which needs to be disposed off at the earliest. Doesn't form an integral part of the story, it appears as an add-on to a shoddy script. As the grand finale Ragaav Dar summarily commentates on the lessons embedded in the script. Doesn't say much for his story-telling abilities.See this only if you are a Prateik Babbar fan. Else avoid. Read more
